If you are going to yoga or some other class to try and “stretch out” your pain, injury, and/or tight muscles, but it’s not working…

…there’s a good reason why.

Stretching isn’t the solution!

It’s the problem.

I know, what??

Why Stretching Isn’t Working

I provide long term, effective solutions for those who are using stretching and yoga to try and relieve muscle tightness, who are rehabbing from injuries, knee/hip replacements, and who have sciatica, lower back, neck, or shoulder pain.

My classes and programs are designed for active individuals who:

  • are looking for practical and sustainable solutions to relieve nagging, persistent, physical pain

  • have tried the typical route of “stretching” and going to regular yoga or Pilates classes but it hasn’t worked or lasted very long - or worse, they ended up in pain for days later

  • need a more accessible class due to hip/knee replacements, artificial parts and pieces, surgeries, former injuries, or simply because they are not built like an uber-bendy, 20-something-ish and the conventional Power Yoga Vinyasa classes are intimidating and put too much hurt on them

  • want to feel stronger, more stable, and more confident in their body

  • want to return doing the activities they love such as golfing/tennis/whatever, working in the garden, keeping up with the kids/grandkids, hiking, etc.

  • want to be able to do normal, everyday, functional tasks such as pick their keys up off the floor without throwing out their back

…and who also appreciate the spiritual benefits of yoga (breath work, meditation, and mantra) to cultivate a more peaceful, less distracted mind so that they can be more connected to their true Self.

I offer a unique and different approach that’s rooted in science and functional anatomy. You will look at movement, yoga, and the source of your physical pain in a whole different way!

Warning, I do not follow the beaten path…

So if you are attached to your current way of doing things and just NEED to do certain yoga poses, my classes and programs are probably not for you.

Join me for a pain-free yoga or pain-relief movement class!

My Yoga Philsophy

There is a lot of asana (postures) unlearning to do!

We are taught that to be a “good” and proficient yogi and to reap the full benefits of yoga, we need to aspire for perfect alignment, to be able to do “advanced” poses like headstands, or contort ourselves into pretzels to prove that we are “flexible”.

This is simply NOT true. And reaching the above isn’t even physically possible in most cases - rather we end up feeling inadequate because our bodies don’t bend in a certain way and worse yet, we injure ourselves trying to conform. We need to remember that the original purpose of yoga was to achieve enlightenment. The great masters would then teach young, naturally flexible, Eastern Indian boys how to follow a spiritual path. There were maybe 10 physical poses at most which were solely used to prepare the body to meditate for hours at a time.

I don’t know of any American woman or man over 30 these days, that is built like a young, 16 year-old Indian boy. I also don’t know of anyone living and working in modern society with a family that has hours each day to meditate. Do you?

And seriously, will wrapping our leg around our neck, or being able to touch our toes with stick-straight legs bring us more prosperity and happiness? From the most basic functional perspective, most of us older-ish folks just want to be able to reach for something in the back seat of the car without freezing up our shoulder.

Based on what I have learned over these past several years about anatomy and how muscles actually work, I now offer accessible, uniquely designed yoga classes with the intention to help people be pain-free, to feel stronger, more stable in their bodies, while also infusing the practical elements of yoga (such as breathwork, mantra, and meditation) to relieve anxiety, depression, and feeling disconnected from Self and others.
